What is the first consultation and what does it entail?

The first consultation is the first time you come for treatment for a chronic complaint. However if I have seen you in the past for an acute condition, I will still do a complete ‘first’ consult if you come for your chronic state.
In the first consultation I will take the time to learn about ‘your story’ I will ask multiple questions to understand what may be going on so I have the information I need to help you further.

What information do you need to know?

During the first consultation, I will listen to you and I would like to know more about your main complaint. Things like what makes it worse or better, how long you have had it for, how it started.
I will also like to know how this affects your daily life, sleep pattern, eating pattern and other life events.
Your emotional and mental state is equally as important for me to know about
And information about other past and present health complaints, how they were treated and conditions that run in your family are good to mention too.

How long is the consultation?

The duration of the first consultation will vary depending on the case but is usually between 1 and 2 hours.

Will I get a diagnosis?

No, I am legally not entitled to make a diagnosis. You need to see a medical doctor for this.

Why do you need to know all this information if I already have a diagnosis from my medical doctor?

Homeopathy differs from regular medicine in that we consider every person as an individual. A homeopath will look at the way you experience your complaint different from anyone else. Based on the symptoms that are really individual to you. I can then find a remedy that most closely matches. As an example 5 people with eczema might all need a different remedy because they all have their individual reaction to the problem with their own story.

What happens in the follow-up session?
The follow up consultations are an evaluation of how you reacted to the remedy. I need to know about the first change after taking the remedy, on which level you felt a difference and in which sequence that happened.
How long does the session last?
The follow up session can be up to one hour.
Why are these sessions so important?
The follow-up consultations give me a better insight about your progress, which helps me to decide on the next action to take. Depending on your reaction to the first dose of the remedy and what happened after that, I can decide whether you need to wait as the remedy is still acting, or need another dose. Or your state has changed and you need a different remedy. For best long term results, it is incredibly important to stick with these follow ups. Otherwise you may not see the results you were hoping for and we may have to start again from the beginning.
Can I not just keep taking the same remedy if it helped me?
That is not recommended. Because a remedy acting and helping in the beginning can mean different things. A homeopath will evaluate in the first follow-up whether the reaction is one of healing, palliation or even suppression. Healing happens in a certain direction and based on that, the homeopath decides on the next step. A homeopath will evaluate when a relapse is a reason to repeat the remedy and when not. It is important to follow these instructions so as not to overwhelm and confuse the body and the results.
How long until I get better?
With a well chosen remedy, in an acute case, you will often see changes within the first hour. With a chronic case you will feel some change in the first 3 days to one week. Some people feel an immediate change in their energy, followed by gradual improvement. It depends a lot on how long you have been suffering, how good your immune system and vitality are, your lifestyle and how much suppression there is. If your state has progressed to pathology, it will take longer than when there is only a functional disturbance. So that makes healing time very individual and you can expect anything between a few weeks up to several years.
How often are the follow-ups?

I usually ask to contact me for a quick follow-up via email or phone in the first week to see if healing has started (included in the price of the first consultation).

I do the first full follow-up 4 weeks after you take your first dose of the remedy. The next followups are usually every few months, although depending on severity of the case, this can be quicker. As you get better, sessions can be more spread out as I can then teach you when to take another dose of your remedy by yourself.

The benefit of long term treatment
Homeopathy has the potential to get to your problems in depth and reduce the susceptibility to disease by removing the root cause of your problem overtime. This is a process and to better help you I need to know how you are going through your healing. The benefit is that you will gradually have less acute disease and better health and wellbeing on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level.

We want to bring you to the highest level of health, where your life force is able to bring back balance easily and you will hardly need medication anymore, whether that is conventional, homeopathic remedies, herbs or other

Can I use homeopathy when on regular medication?
Yes you can use both at the same time in most cases. Homeopathic remedies do not interfere with conventional drugs. When you are improving during your homeopathic treatment, it is good to organise with your doctor to gradually when you can reduce the medication. Do this always under supervision from your doctor.

Homeopathy can also help with the side effects of conventional medication and can speed up the healing.

Homeopathy is a safe, gentle, natural path to health, that encourages our own defense mechanism to heal body, mind and soul.
